History[ edit ] Maxon Nisshin Onpa started out in the mid s as a guitar pickup manufacturer. In they also became an effects pedal manufacturer, primarily as a producer of OEM products for other companies. During that time Nisshin Onpa was responsible for building a fuzz-wah pedal that was very popular, being marketed under a multitude of trade names including Ibanez. During the s Ibanez became one of the company’s main OEM customers. Nisshin Onpa also marketed its pedals under its own Maxon name during this time. When Nisshin Onpa and Ibanez parted ways in , Nisshin Onpa began to more aggressively market its own line of Maxon pedals. Repositioning itself as a manufacturer of high-end mass-produced effects, Maxon expanded its line of analog pedals, using rare NOS components and classic circuit designs that are to this day highly respected and sought after. Maxon continues to expand its product line. Although they produced digital delays and reverbs during the s and ’90s, they now concentrate mostly on “hard-to-find elsewhere” vintage type effects such as analog delays, analog choruses and flangers, and classic overdrive and distortion units. Most of the old Ibanez Nine Series is available in Maxon form these days, but the Maxon pedals now include true-bypass switching and circuitry equal to or in many cases superior to the Ibanez originals.

Fernandes Burny Here’s a quick way to tell if you have a Matsumoku factory guitar whether branded or not. That’s a dead giveaway that you’ve got one of “Uncle Matt’s” guitars. As I said above, Fujigen and the other manufacturers produced guitars with no logos at all for sale around the world. That in itself shouldn’t cause much confusion, because we know from Hoshino that “if it doesn’t say Ibanez” it’s not an Ibanez. However, Fujigen Gakki, the manufacturer of Ibanez-branded guitars would provide stock, no-name images to Hoshino and other distributors for use in their catalogs.

Fujigen only had to take one picture of a guitar instead of one with each different brand on it.

Ibanez serial numbers are unique identifiers placed on instruments sold under the Ibanez brand. Ibanez guitars have used serial numbers since the mid s. Some sources say the practice started in September , but serial numbers indicating production as early as October have been spotted.

Like many words in our society, this one is oft used, seldom understood. Find an old Ibanez that is a copy of another, more familiar guitar? I have seen guitars go for much more than they are actually worth simply because the purchaser has fallen for the hype or actually didn’t know what constitutes a “lawsuit” model. Here is my attempt to clear up an urban legend, and, in the words of Chuck D. The country was in the post-World War II music boom, and guitars were very popular.

January 20, , As you can see, it could mean many things depending on the manufacturer. Alembic The first 2 numbers of the serial number correspond to the year it was built. There may also be present a letter code designating a certain model. The latter digits indicate the individual instrument and its place in production.

Ibanez (アイバニーズ, Aibanīzu) is a Japanese guitar brand owned by Hoshino Gakki. Based in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, Hoshino Gakki were one of the first Japanese musical instrument companies to gain a significant foothold in import guitar sales in the United States and Europe, as well as the first brand of guitars to mass-produce the seven-string guitar and eight-string guitar.

We would be glad to use the RC chip in your mod if you would like. They have a little bit more grit which some people might like. SRV used the TS for his trademark juicy strat tone. TS9 Around until the Ibanez pedals were repackaged and the 9-series of effects were made. The most popular was the TS-9 tube screamer, which is almost the same as the TS internally. The main change in the TS-9 circuit is in the output section. This caused the tube screamer to be a bit brighter and less “smooth”.

The Edge from U2 uses a TS9 for most of his overdrive tones, as do countless other famous rock and blues players. In later years the TS-9s were put together with other op-amp chips, instead of the JRC which is called for in the schematics. Many used the Toshiba TA which was continued on the reissue. If you have an original TS9 with the chip, our mods will make a huge difference in tone. This series was only made in about From about through 89 when the 10 series ended, some TS pedals were made in Taiwan, using an MC chip.

Asclepius was espoused as the first physician, and myth placed him as the son of Apollo. Temples dedicated to the healer-god Asclepius, known as Asclepieia Greek: People would come to drink the waters and to bathe in them because they were believed to have medicinal properties. Mud baths and hot teas such as chamomile were used to calm them or peppermint tea to soothe their headaches, which is still a home remedy used by many today.

The patients were encouraged to sleep in the facilities too. Their dreams were interpreted by the doctors and their symptoms were then reviewed. Dogs would occasionally be brought in to lick open wounds for assistance in their healing. In the Asclepieion of Epidaurus , three large marble boards dated to BC preserve the names, case histories, complaints, and cures of about 70 patients who came to the temple with a problem and shed it there.

Some of the surgical cures listed, such as the opening of an abdominal abscess or the removal of traumatic foreign material, are realistic enough to have taken place, but with the patient in a state of enkoimesis induced with the help of soporific substances such as opium. However, it is frequently confused with Caduceus , which was a staff wielded by the god Hermes. The Rod of Asclepius embodies one snake with no wings whereas Caduceus is represented by two snakes and a pair of wings depicting the swiftness of Hermes.

It’s the Ibanez Roadstar Series II RS , serial number J and I have it in the all black finish, with matching headstock and the trick red piping around the guitar’s body. This particular one was made in October of The ‘J’ in the serial number is the 10th letter of the alphabet, and denotes the month of manufacture, while the first two numbers 84 denote the year. This was the th guitar of this specific ‘RS’ model to be made that year. Care to guess how many are left in this condition excellent, relatively speaking after over 26 years?

To supplement the sound and tonal variety available, Ibanez outfitted the RS it was only available in and with “push-push” coil tapping. The company named the system ‘Duo Sound,’and in addition to the two 2 volume knobs, the RS also featured a single tone knob and a 3-way selector switch.

Unknown Place of Manufacture: The Tri stood for Triangle, as the V1 Big Muff had come to be known due to the triangular knob layout. Hohner had been around since , known as one of the worlds largest accordion and harmonica manufacturers. Hohner branched into making keyboards in the s, electric guitars in the s, and acoustic guitars in the s.

As many other companies were doing at the time, Hohner also branched into the effect pedal business in the mid s. These included the Sound Modifier Series, the Dirty Booster Overdrive, and the Tri Dirty Booster, which was essentially a straight clone of an early Big Muff with an extra capacitor in the tone section.

This is a very quick history, and mostly from memory, so take it all with a grain of salt and try to verify what you can from other sources. However, every attempt has been made to provide only verifiable and true information, in an attempt to set the record straight and dispell some modern “myths” about Ibanez model guitars. They were not forgeries, as they were never sold with misleading logos or with the intent to deceive. Due to their high quality, Ibanez guitars and those made under other brands, such as Greco and Aria, quickly earned a reputation around the world as quality instruments at a great value.

There is a form of urban legend that circulates in the guitar community that has many variations, but usually involves either Gibson or Fender suing Ibanez, Aria, or some other Japanese manufacturer, with the intent to stop that company from manufacturing superior copies. The truth is less glamourous. Only one company ever sued another, and it was Norlin the owner of the Gibson brand at the time suing Hoshino owner of the Ibanez brand and the suit was focused only on the “open book” headstock shape common to Gibson guitars and replicated on the Ibanez guitars.

The suit was brought in , but by then Ibanez had already changed the headstock shape on its copy models, so the suit was settled out of court. No other company was ever sued by any other company. However, this episode has given rise to the term “lawsuit” guitar, which is used to describe any Japanese copy guitar made in the shape of an American manufacturer’s model. The Ibanez Golden Age, – Beginning about , Hoshino began introducing original guitar and bass models to the market.

At first, their original designs were subtle variations on the copy models. For example, the “Custom Agent” model was basically a Les Paul with a fancy scroll headstock, a fancy pick guard, and, yes, fancy inlays on the neck and body. The Professional model was a Les Paul with a “vined” neck and a fancy headstock.

If you’re in the market for a traditionally-sized single-cut box, then you shouldn’t limit your search to this guitar but you may find that, unless you know exactly what you want, the slightly smaller dimensions and crystalline tone could be for you. Pros The focussed tone and comfortable neck. Cons All things considered, nothing. Most players are drawn to guitars they know the look of and, even when opting for models that don’t demonstrate an obvious influence, will always describe their performance as, say, a little like a Les Paul, but a bit like a Telecaster too – it’s all about familiar points of reference that most guitarists can quickly recognise.

And there are many very affordable brands that ape Gibson and Fender’s famous solidbodies almost exactly, that are still just about playable even at the lowest ends of the market. The same certainly isn’t true of equitable semi-acoustic models and, if you’ve ever had the misfortune of trying to get a tune from a genuinely awful copy of an ES , ES or whatever, you’ll know exactly what we’re trying to get across here.

The reason is that, to produce a semi of any worth, a specific amount of constructional know-how and, let’s face it, skill is required – certainly when compared to bashing out a Telecaster – and this often costs money: In cubic-volume terms, the bigger the guitar, the truer this becomes and, at the other end of the scale, models such as the Benedetto Manhattan are genuine works of art whose five-figure price pales when balanced with the sheer beauty of the playing experience.

The point is that, if you fancy a semi-acoustic that’s not necessarily from the Gibson stable yet offers a solid guarantee of quality without the prospect of breaking the bank, Ibanez is a definite option to consider. Of course, these are far from the first semi-acoustics Ibanez has produced in its illustrious history. The first so-called box guitar sporting the now famous name was the AM50, launched in and bearing an unsurprisingly close resemblance to a certain ‘electric Spanish’ guitar.

Current Ibanez models include contemporary versions of AM, AS and big-bodied AFS guitars amongst others, but there’s no doubt the pale, all-maple look of these two bears little resemblance to anything we’ve seen from the company before.

He remained active until his untimely death in February His main guitar in the early years was a Les Paul acquired from Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac, which he owned for more than 40 years before selling it in This is the guitar that Gary used on his best selling album Still Got The Blues, and the one he kept by his side until his death. As said, Gary used this guitar very briefly and it pretty much disappeared after mid If you happen to know what happened to it after, be sure to let us know using the contact form at the bottom of this page.

After leaving Fleetwood Mac in Peter borrowed the guitar to Gary, as he was sort of a mentor to him in the early years. Couple of visuals mods are also worth mentioning. Please note that even though the interview was published in January , it was likely conducted a couple of months prior.

I broke the neck off while having a row with me chick. It appears thought that the neck still had a Fender logo on the headstock based on the footage, so maybe Gary ended up just grabbing a neck from another guitar. Both of the humbuckers are Di Marzios, which Gary seemed to like very much. I think Di Marzio pickups are a major improvement on the pickups supplied standard with the new Gibsons and Fenders.
