This amp was built to play larger halls and outdoor concerts. The lack of reverb was not a big issue as most live performances had acoustics full of reverberation halls, arenas. Peter Traynor built these things to stand up to road abuse, unlike a lot of vintage stuff. It sounds great with either bass and guitar, providing a clean and loud tone. Works great in large club settings. Front panel has two input jacks, controls for treble boost, volume, treble expander, treble, bass expander, bass, presence, and bass boost. There is also a standby switch and corresponding green and red pilot lights.
I learned my craft with curiosity, trial and error in times before the Internet when much of this information was held secret by the experts. I have many years of experience in these fields, and use these Web pages to share my knowledge freely. This site is offered in the hope that readers will better understand electric guitar technology, leading to creative use of your musical tools.
Of course, only practice will improve your musical vocabulary and articulation.
Marshall Amplifier Date Codes There are easy ways to determine date of your Marshall amplifier’s manufacture by the serial number. The charts below will explain how to read the serial numbers and decode the model numbers.
Pilot Electric Manufacturing Company also claimed to be “The World’s Largest Radio Parts Plant” in the twenties and they did build all of the parts supplied with their kits. Though not the first Shortwave receiver kit offered by Pilot, the three-tube “Wasp” was certainly their first really popular Shortwave receiver kit. The plug-in coils selected the tuning ranges that covered meters to 17 meters or about kc up to A complete coil set featured five coils each with color-coded handles for identification.
The three tubes were usually A and the circuit used a regenerative detector followed by two stages of transformer coupled AF amplification. The kit included detailed instructions along with an assembly drawing. Builders were warned to adhere to the wiring layout shown on the drawing or performance would suffer. The circuit was built on a bakelite board for the chassis and a mahogany colored bakelite panel.
The “Wasp” was introduced just as Shortwave Broadcasting was beginning to grow and everyone wanted to tune in to stations located in foreign countries. The “Wasp” was very popular and soon spawned a newer, more sophisticated successor, the “Super-Wasp. Since these were kits though, build quality was highly variable and dependent on the assembler’s experience. Pilot’s magazine “Radio Design” was always including updates along with suggestions for improving performance, consequently “Super-Wasp” receivers are sometimes found today having modifications or non-original parts.

MCM vs SiP vs. Computer and communication companies have driven this trend for decades through finer lithography, better materials, and larger chips and wafers, all leading to higher clock frequency. Cost was not a factor. But the world has changed, and the primary focus today is more functionality at an affordable cost. Even personal computer companies have moved on to dual- and multi-core processors that perform multiple functions on a single chip — spreadsheet on one quarter of the screen, photograph editing on another, watching a movie on the third, and video-conferencing on the fourth.
The key challenges to SoC progress, however, are formidable, and include design and design verification, manufacturability, intellectual property IP and legal issues, time-to-market, and cost. To overcome these problems, system companies pursued a different approach to SoC, dating back to the s. Instead of integrating all or most of the system needs on large and complex single chips, they fabricated smaller, high-yielding chips and reconstituted them to behave like large chips as multi-chip modules MCMs.
Of course, music has always been an international art form that connects people around the world. Avi Goldfinger, a guitarist and singer-songwriter, is the third partner. Conducting meticulous studies of heritage guitars dating back to the s through s, they are striving to gain insights into the formula that has established these instruments as timeless classics.

The source-date code on a pot is a 6 or 7 digit code impressed into the casing of the potentiometer. For speakers this code can be 5, 6, 7 or 8 digits long, and it’s ink-stamped or paint-stamped on the “bell housing” of the speaker. In either case, the code works the same. The first 3 digits on a pot, or the first 2, 3 or 4 digits on a speaker are the source or manufacturer code.
The remaining 3 or 4 digits are the date code. In 3 digit dates code, the 1st digit is the last digit of the year. On 4 digits date codes, the 1st and 2nd digits are the last two digits of the year. In either case, the remaining 2 digits are the week of manufacture 01 to With this in mind, remember if the last two digits of the source-date code are greater than 52, you’re not looking at the source-date code!
Also it’s worth mentioning: On 3 digit date codes, you have to “guess” the decade of the pot or speaker.

Mechanical Details and Variations Piano Actions Pre Seeburg pianos typically have no stop rail to limit the travel of the stack pneumatics, neither on the stack nor on the piano action. Post pianos have a stop rail on the piano action, allowing the pneumatics to have a little extra span and providing for manual adjustment of the stop position of each pneumatic. Pneumatic Stacks Seeburg numbered its pneumatic stacks with steel die stamps, starting in and ending sometime in In the first series, known numbers run from through Probably after , a new numbering series was begun, usually stamped in smaller numbers, with known numbers from through , then a large gap, and then one much higher number, The new numbering series does not necessarily begin with the late style two-tier stack design, but more information is needed to pinpoint the change.
Seeburg made five types of pneumatic stacks: Single valves, no adjustable bleeds. All valves are installed in one vertical valve box on the front, with removable inside wooden seats, each seat holding four valves, except the last one, which has fewer.

Please don’t ask if we know any other speakers than mentioned on this page. When you know the best, you’re not interested in the rest. No, we don’t know if your Speakers match your Amp, but we can tell you how to tell if they are below. The more amps we try on our Tannoy Golds, the wider our opinion can be. The fact is there really is no way to tell beyond actually trying the Amp with the Speaker.
We’ve not got bigger speakers of the post design, if we use some small ones to test, they hardly give a full picture of the sound. Buying a Speaker is the most hard of all hifi items to buy due to the huge tonal differences and how they interact with the room you use as well as the amplifier. Phase errors will create a poor sound as well as the minute volume differences.

Previously Rzeznik had been in a band with Takac’s cousin, called The Beaumonts. In the early days of The Goo Goo Dolls , the band performed at gigs relentlessly, with Takac as the frontman Rzeznik gradually becoming the frontman over the next few albums, as each new album contained more songs sung by Rzeznik than the last. They were soon picked up by a small record label, Celluloid.
This attracted the attention of a larger record label, Metal Blade , who released their next few albums. For the next few years the band toured, produced albums and held down regular jobs.

Many of these brand names are but a faint memory today, while others have garnered attention bordering on hysteria, thanks to eBay. One of those names was Stark. What little I know personally about the company called Stark is as follows. Stark was an electronics manufacturer located in Ajax, Ontario during the golden days of radio. It appears that Stark actually manufactured their own test equipment, including the earliest tube testers. The earliest Stark tube tester is probably the Model An example is seen below.
Early example of Stark tube tester. The small chart affixed to the top lid lists the tube types that can be tested. What you may note is that there is a very limited switching array, and the tester itself is very small and compact. Now things get very confusing.

History[ edit ] The 5B6 Bassman[ edit ] During , the Fender 5B6 Bassman amplifier was introduced as a combo amplifier cabinet that included the amplifier chassis combined with one 15″ speaker. It was designed to generate 26 watts at an 8 ohm impedance load, and offered a cathode-based bias. In the cabinet designs were changed to the so-called “Wide Panel” design, with a 5 inch wide tweed covered panel above and below a wider swath of grill cloth.
Fender ceased production of 5B6 Bassman amplifiers during the spring of
All Marshall amps originally came with Celestion speakers, so in cases where the speakers are original, speaker date codes can be used to date earlier amps. Marshall cabinets didn’t officially include serial numbers until October As a result, dating cabs can be more art than science.
